The Kitchen Furniture Guide to Bar Tables

If you have small kitchen, a Bar Table will give you the most bang for your kitchen furniture buck. They are typically small and compact, usually with 2 or 4 bar stools to match. It will give you a small, intimate place for meals, or a spot for visitors to your kitchen to socialize while the meal is being prepared. It can be your only table or an addition to a larger table in dining room. If you need a place for your kids to do their homework or spend time on the computer while you are nearby, a bar table, can function as a desk when needed, then instantly be a place for the grownups to have a drink and catch up on each other’s day.

Before you purchase a new bar table, spend some time online looking at all of the available options. You will also find them referred to as Pub Tables, so include that term, too, when you are searching. Although most are around 42 inches high, they can be found both taller and shorter. They come in all shapes, too: round, square and rectangular. Some even come with an optional expansion leaf, just like a regular dining table. Be sure to measure the space where you are planning to use your bar table so you’ll know you have enough room. Don’t forget to allow enough room for the bar stools, too. You’ll want to have enough room for everyone to be able to seat themselves and eat or drink comfortably, without constantly bumping into each other’s elbows. If space is really at a premium, look for stools that tuck in under the bar when you aren’t using them so they don’t take up so much of your floor space.

Make sure that the height of the bar stool will give you enough room to get your legs underneath the table. They should also be at a comfortable height for eating. If you have furniture showroom nearby, go in and test a few table and stool heights so that you get an idea of which sizes work best for you. If at all possible, take a tape measure and notebook with you to record your findings. If you see a brand and style that you love, but is out of your price range, make a note of that, too, and hit the internet when you get home to see if it is available cheaper online.

You will also want the style of the table you choose to match the rest of your decor. Glass and chrome may look great in the pictures or in a showroom, but won’t fit in well if you have a country kitchen and all of the rest of your furniture is heavy wood. It doesn’t have to be a perfect match, although there is nothing wrong with that, either. But the overall style should work with the things you already have.

There are just as many choices of materials available as there are styles. You will find bar tables made from oak, maple, cherry, teak, chrome and glass, bamboo, and wicker, just to name a few. Some of the bar stools will have backs, some won’t. They can be wood or upholstered. Padded or fitted with separate cushions. Swivel or stationary.
